Couples Communication Workshop

Imagine you receive an award for outstanding achievement at work. Some of your friends are happy for you and tell you that you deserve it. Others are not so happy. Some even seem upset. You can tell who your friends are when things go wrong, but it becomes even more obvious when you have a success.

The same is true in your marital relationship. How does your spouse react to your good news? How do you react to your spouse’s success? A recent student found that the way a person responds to a partner’s good fortune is the most crucial factor in tightening a couple’s bond or understand it.1 if your spouse reacts with excitement or prude to your accomplishments, you feel that your spouse is on your side. If the reaction is indifference or even criticism, you probably feel unloved and alone.

Studies have found that in most relationships, positive events outnumber negative events by at least four to one. As a result, we have many more opportunities to show support for positive events than we do for misfortune. While it may feel soothing to be reassured when things go wrong, it feels even better to have someone share your happiness when things go right.

So look for the next opportunity to share in your spouse’s success. It’s a sure way to bring you closer. Be happy and share the joy. For more tips on improving your relationship, enroll in our free marriage education workshops now!
